Girls Tennis

St. Joseph High School Girls Tennis Team will be sending 4 to Individual STATE Tennis Meet in Madison, Wisconsin starting Thursday October 16 and going through to Saturday October 18th.

Amanda Dick(17-1), sophomore at SJHS, will be returning for her 2nd year to STATE at a PLACEMENT SEED for D-2 Singles.(D-2 only seeds 4 top players and then gives a placement seed to the next top 4) Her first match will be Thursday evening 7pm, against Hillary Jennes(22-2) a Junior at Altoona High School.

Gina Matteucci(16-2), junior at SJHS, will be returning to STATE for her 2nd time. She was at STATE as a freshman(2006) and missed going in as a “special qualifier” last year(2007). Gina as a “special qualifier” for 2008 STATE meet will match up against Shannon Stoffregen(11-4), a Senior from Sheboygan Falls High School and Shannon is also a “special qualifier” for 2008 STATE meet. Gina will be playing in her first round at Thursday evening at 7:30pm.

Jordan Naidicz, senior at SJHS and Bridget O’Toole, sophomore , #1 doubles team at SJHS(5-1), will be entering the STATE meet for the first time on Thursday evening at 8:30pm, as a “Special Qualifier” Team. They will play Thursday evening at 8:30pm against another “special qualifier” team Maggie Lauterbach(10)/Taylor Lauzon(12) from Big Foot/Williams Bay High School(15-14). Jordan was the #3 singles player for SJHS during the regular season (8-1) and Bridget was the #4 singles player (8-1) for SJHS tennis team. Both of them were strong singles players with their only match lost was at the conference meet this year. I wanted to try to get Jordan to STATE this year since she is a SENIOR. We teamed her up with Bridget and they pulled it together to work as a doubles team. The results have been wonderful for her and Bridget. This “special qualifier” STATE match is very special for me as the coach at SJHS. To see any of the seniors get a chance at STATE is everything for the tennis team, the parents, the players and the school. All the hard work Jordan, Bridget, Gina and Amanda have done since conference has truly paid off for each one of them and for the 2008 SJHS girls’ tennis team. They are very proud of themselves to represent their High School and the City of Kenosha in Madison October 16, 17, and the 18th. Kenosha all around has excellent tennis opportunities and it has shown off in the representation from all 3 High Schools(Bradford, Tremper and St. Joseph) here in Kenosha.
